Once upon a time, a ship by the name of J. McGregor set sail from the good ol' US of A with a cargo of precious cargo - bourbon! Alas, fate had other plans for the poor vessel, and it met its watery end in the depths of the Atlantic.
But that's not the end of the story, me buckos! Fast forward to 2018, and a team of divers stumbled upon the sunken remains of the J. McGregor. And what did they find lurking within its rusted hull? None other than barrels of bourbon, still perfectly preserved after all those years!
Now, I know what you're thinking - "how can bourbon survive that long underwater?" Well, let us tell ye, friends, it's all down to science. The high alcohol content of bourbon (typically around 40-50%) acts as a natural preservative, keeping the liquid from spoiling even in the harshest conditions.
So, what did the intrepid divers do with their newfound bounty? Did they sell it for a king's ransom? Did they crack open a barrel and have a wee dram? Well, unfortunately, the bourbon was deemed too fragile to be moved or opened. But hey, it's still pretty darn cool to know that there's 170-year-old bourbon out there, waiting for someone brave (or crazy) enough to try it.
