Jack Ryan Shelbourne 5 Year Old Bourbon Finish

There's nothing better than simply enjoying a glass after a long day, and then there are the true connoisseurs who seek out the finest expressions of this distilled spirit. For the latter, Jack Ryan Whiskey has become a name synonymous with quality and innovation. Their latest release, the Shelbourne 5 Year Old Bourbon Finish, is a testament to their commitment to crafting exceptional Irish whiskey.

Further to their cause, the Jack Ryan Shelbourne 5 Year Old Bourbon Finish (Cask Strength 57.5% ABV) was adjudged best overall in the category Irish Single Malts 11YO and younger at the 2023 Irish Whiskey Awards.

It is no small feat to win such an award, in Ireland’s preeminent whiskey competition, competing against such an array of quality older whiskeys. This Shelbourne Batch #1 is the first of a series of 3. Each batch comprises 980 numbered bottles, signed by Eunan Ryan, MD and Ryan Scion.

In 2022, Finisher’s Touch 12YO 46% ABV won best overall in the category Irish Single Malt 12-15YO. The Shelbourne Batches continue the Jack Ryan Whiskey “Dublin Series” which started with Raglan Road. Finisher’s Touch completed “The Generation Trilogy” celebrating the generations of whiskey Ryans.

The Shelbourne 5 Year Old Bourbon Finish is a single malt whiskey that has been matured for five years in bourbon casks. This imparts a rich and complex flavour profile that is characterized by notes of vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak. The whiskey is then finished in first-fill oloroso sherry casks, which add a touch of sweetness and depth. The result is a whiskey that is both smooth and flavourful, with a long, lingering finish.

I've had the privilege of tasting many different expressions from around the world. But the Shelbourne 5 Year Old Bourbon Finish is one that very much was a surprise, and I truly believe it stands out. It's a whiskey that is perfect for both experienced whiskey drinkers and those who are just starting to explore this wonderful world.
