I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting bottlings to try. So, when I heard about the launch of Teeling Rising Reserve 2 Marsala Cask at The Corkscrew off Grafton Street, I knew I had to be there.

This limited edition whiskey is a 21-year-old single malt that has been matured in ex-bourbon casks for over 18 years, before being finished in high quality Marsala casks from Sicily for 3 years. This dual maturation and in particular long finishing time in the Marsala casks imparts distinctive dark fruit notes and orchard fruit married with a brown sugar cinnamon-like spice.

The launch event at The Corkscrew was a great success, with whiskey lovers from all over coming to try the new release. I was lucky enough to be one of the first to sample it, and I was not disappointed.

Launch at The Corkscrew

The launch event at The Corkscrew was a great way to experience this new whiskey. Alex Chasko, Teeling's Master Distiller is always so knowledgeable and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. I was also impressed with the selection of other whiskeys that were available to try.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: the whiskey is rich and complex, with aromas of vanilla sweetness, toasted apricots, tobacco, and rich spiced fruits, along with a hint of sweet Seville oranges and toasted almonds.

Palate: creamy and warming, with bursts of brown sugar and stewed fruits, followed by oak tannins and cinnamon spice.

Finish: long and warming, with notes of honeysuckle, rich demerara sugar, citrus, and spice.

Overall, I was very impressed with Teeling Rising Reserve 2 Marsala Cask. It is a well-crafted and balanced whiskey with a unique flavour profile along with the stunning black glass decanter. The Marsala cask finish has added a layer of complexity and richness that is sure to please whiskey lovers of all kinds.
